Google Now, the virtual assistant embedded in Android phones and the Google Search app, is about to become more personalized. A new feature identified will have Google Now inquiring about your interests to deliver content that matters to you.
A feature currently in the experimental stage, known as “Explore Interests,” displays six categories for users to specify their preferences: Sports, TV, Movies, Musicians, People, and Stocks. You can further narrow down your interests within these categories by selecting favorite sports teams, musicians, and so on.
When new information related to your selected interests is available, Google will present it via a Google Now card. Essentially, this feature aims to provide you with all your desired content without requiring active searches.
This update to Google Now is gradually being rolled out, which makes sense given its experimental nature. Confirmations from a Google spokesperson indicate that the company is indeed working on this feature, but no additional details are available at the moment.
As Google’s voice assistant looms on the horizon, testing the new ‘Explore Interests’ feature is also an opportunity for the company to enhance its machine learning capabilities in understanding user preferences. When this feature will become widely available on more Android devices remains uncertain, as it appears Google is still refining design elements before a broader roll-out.
